“STEAMtheBlock” in H-Town is an avenue of The STEM Foundation program to add the Arts into our regular Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programming. Once or twice a year, SteamtheBlock introduces inner-city youth and their families to arts experiences that they wouldn’t normally attend or be comfortable in such a setting. To engage youth more, they have designed a “Youth Talent Expo” that is conducted in an American Idol format with some celebrity judges.

SteamtheBlock has collaborated with other non-profits from LA, DC, TN, GA and South Africa to spend a week engaging in STEM activities with kids and then climax the week with a concert called “STEAMtheBlock” in whatever block of America or country they are in. This time, SteamtheBlock took place in H-Town!

Inauguration of Mayor Yolanda Ford
I am very thankful to Mayor Yolanda Ford for the honor to perform for her inauguration. This was truly a historic event. Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees member Jim Rice summed it up nicely. I will paraphrase:
Here we are for the Inauguration of the first female, Afro-American Mayor of Missouri City, TX, taking place during Black History Month at Thurgood Marshall High School - a school named in honor of the first Afro-American to hold a seat on the highest court in the land - Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
